In order to get the job I needed a bicycle...so...I borrowed $40.00 from my Dad and bought the same model and green color Schwinn pictured here, only a '52. I got the job and repaid the loan at $2.00wk (my job paid $4.00wk + tips..it was 7 days a week, on Sundays I walked my route pushing a wooden paper cart with iron wheels, delivering to my regular customers, while selling extra copies I carried to those nonroute customers attracted by my on-going, very loud vocal announcement every few minutes of, "Paper, paper...Get your Sunday morning paper!"
Looking back, I've always felt that this was a major milestone in my young life.
